Why Tauranga Car Owners Book Paint Correction

Swirl marks, fine scratches and oxidation are not just cosmetic issues. They break down your clear coat over time. Left untreated, that damage becomes permanent and far more costly to fix. Paint correction stops that process.

If you are planning to sell, a corrected paint finish adds real money to your asking price. Buyers notice dull, swirled paint immediately. A restored finish signals a well-cared-for vehicle, which means more interest and stronger offers.

For drivers who want to apply a ceramic coating or paint protection film, paint correction is the essential first step. Sealing over contamination or scratches locks that damage in. Getting the paint right first means any protection you add on top will last longer and perform better.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontaminate

We start with a thorough decontamination wash using a pH-neutral shampoo followed by an iron fallout remover and clay bar treatment. This removes all bonded contamination from the paint surface before any machine touches it. Polishing over contamination causes more scratches, so this step is not optional.

45 to 60 mins
2

Paint Inspection Under Lighting

We inspect every panel under dedicated detailing lights to identify the depth and type of defects present. This tells us which compounds and pads are right for your specific paint and determines which correction stage is needed. Skipping this step is how mistakes get made.

15 to 20 mins
3

Machine Polishing

We work panel by panel using a dual-action or rotary polisher, pairing the right compound and pad combination to your paint hardness and defect level. We check our work under lighting between passes to confirm defect removal and monitor paint thickness to keep your clear coat safe.

2 to 6 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

Refinement and Final Polish

On two-stage and multi-stage corrections, we follow the cutting stage with a finer polish to eliminate any micro-marring left behind and push the gloss as high as possible. This is the step that separates a factory-fresh finish from a paint job that just looks better than before.

1 to 2 hours
5

Panel Wipe and Protection

We remove all polish residue with an IPA panel wipe to reveal the true corrected finish. We then apply a finishing sealant to protect the paint and lock in the gloss. If you have booked a ceramic coating to follow, this step is adjusted to ensure the surface is fully prepared for bonding.

Paint Correction FAQ

Cost depends on the size of your vehicle, the condition of the paint and which correction stage is needed. A single-stage correction on a small vehicle costs less than a multi-stage correction on a large SUV or ute. We assess your paint before quoting so you only pay for what your car actually needs. Get a free quote to get an accurate number for your vehicle.
A single-stage correction typically takes 4 to 6 hours. A two-stage correction runs 6 to 8 hours. A multi-stage correction on a heavily defected vehicle can take a full day or longer. We will give you an accurate time estimate when we quote based on your vehicle and its current paint condition.
The correction itself is permanent as long as the paint is not re-scratched. The results do not fade or reverse on their own. What matters is what goes on top of the corrected paint. A basic sealant will protect the finish for several months. A ceramic coating applied over the correction significantly extends the life of the results, often for several years with proper maintenance.
Avoid automatic car washes with spinning brushes as these are the main cause of swirl marks. Use a two-bucket wash method or a contactless wash when hand washing is not possible. Apply a spray sealant or quick detailer every few months to maintain protection. If you had a ceramic coating applied after the correction, follow the specific maintenance instructions provided at handover.
We stand behind our work. If you are not satisfied with the result, contact Mitch directly and we will make it right. We use paint thickness gauges throughout the process to ensure your clear coat is protected, and we will not push into paint that does not have enough clear coat to safely correct.
For swirl marks, light scratches and oxidation, paint correction is almost always the better option. A respray is expensive, time-consuming and can introduce its own imperfections. Paint correction restores your existing factory paint rather than replacing it, which is better for resale value and far less disruptive. Deep scratches that break through to bare metal may still require spot repair, which we will flag during our inspection.
A cut and polish is a general term often used by panel beaters and car washes. It typically involves a single rotary pass with an aggressive compound that can leave behind heavy swirling if not followed up correctly. Paint correction is a staged, controlled process using appropriate pads and compounds matched to your specific paint, with results checked under lighting at each stage. The end result is significantly more refined.
You just need to be available at the start to hand over the keys and at the end to check the work. You do not need to stay on site during the detail. We bring everything we need and work off our own water and power supply, so there is nothing you need to set up or provide.
